Nature of the Platform — Technology Intermediary

Core Principle: Get Me My Lawyer is a technology platform and an intermediary as defined under the Information Technology Act, 2000. We are not a law firm. We do not practise law. We do not provide legal advice.

The Platform operates solely as a communication and intake facilitation infrastructure. It enables Users to connect with independent Legal Professionals for the purpose of obtaining legal consultations. The relationship created is strictly between the User and the Legal Professional.

Get Me My Lawyer:

  • Is not a party to any attorney-client relationship formed through the Platform.
  • Does not employ, retain, or supervise any Legal Professional listed on the Platform.
  • Does not endorse, recommend, rank, or guarantee the quality of advice provided by any Legal Professional.
  • Does not advertise or solicit legal services on behalf of any Legal Professional in violation of the Bar Council of India Rules.
  • Is not responsible for the outcome of any legal matter arising from a Consultation facilitated through the Platform.

Legal Professionals on the Platform are independent practitioners. Their listing does not constitute advertising under Rule 36 of the Bar Council of India Standards of Professional Conduct and Etiquette Rules. The Platform operates as an information and logistics intermediary only.

Clause 3

Eligibility & Registration

To access the Platform and its services, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be legally competent to enter into binding contracts under the Indian Contract Act, 1872.
  • Provide accurate, truthful, and current information when submitting any form on the Platform.
  • Not be barred from receiving services under any applicable law.

By using the Platform, you represent and warrant that all information you provide — including your name, contact details, and the nature of your legal matter — is truthful, complete, and not misleading. Providing false information constitutes grounds for immediate termination of access and may expose you to legal liability.

The Platform reserves the right to refuse service, cancel bookings, and terminate access at its sole discretion without notice or liability, particularly in cases of misuse, fraud, or breach of these Terms.

Clause 4

Services Offered

The Platform currently facilitates the following services on a best-effort basis:

  • Legal Consultation Matching: Connecting Users with Legal Professionals based on practice area, geography, and language preference.
  • Video Consultations: Facilitation of scheduled one-on-one video calls between Users and Legal Professionals.
  • Post-Consultation Summary: Delivery of a structured written summary of advice shared during a Consultation, prepared by the Legal Professional.
  • Document Review: Where included in a selected service tier, facilitation of basic document review by a Legal Professional.
  • Intake & Callback Service: Processing of enquiry forms and arranging callbacks to confirm consultation slots.

Service Availability: All services are offered on a best-effort, availability-dependent basis. We do not guarantee the immediate availability of a Legal Professional in any specific practice area, language, or city at any given time. Response times mentioned on the Platform (e.g., "within 2 hours") are indicative targets, not contractual guarantees.

The Platform reserves the right to modify, suspend, withdraw, or add services at any time without prior notice. We shall not be liable for any loss or inconvenience caused by changes to our service offerings.

Clause 5

Client Obligations & Conduct

As a User accessing the Platform, you agree to:

  • Use the Platform solely for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms and Applicable Laws.
  • Provide accurate, complete, and honest information about your legal matter. Withholding material facts may result in incomplete or incorrect legal advice, for which the Platform bears no responsibility.
  • Treat Legal Professionals with respect and professionalism during all interactions.
  • Not record, reproduce, distribute, or publish any Consultation without the prior written consent of the Legal Professional and the Platform.
  • Not misuse the Platform to harass, defame, threaten, or abuse any Legal Professional.
  • Not use the Platform to seek legal assistance for matters that are unlawful, fraudulent, or intended to harm any third party.
  • Not share login credentials, booking links, or payment links with third parties.
  • Pay all applicable fees in full before or at the time of the Consultation as required.
  • Acknowledge that the Post-Consultation Summary is a general informational document and does not constitute a formal legal opinion or advice that can be submitted in court proceedings without independent verification by a qualified advocate.

You acknowledge that legal advice is inherently situational and that outcomes cannot be guaranteed by any Legal Professional or by the Platform. The Platform bears no responsibility for decisions made by you based on advice received during a Consultation.

Clause 6

Legal Professional Obligations

Legal Professionals joining the Platform agree to:

  • Maintain a valid, active enrollment with the relevant State Bar Council throughout their listing period.
  • Immediately notify the Platform in writing if their right to practice is suspended, cancelled, or challenged.
  • Conduct all Consultations with due professional diligence, honesty, and in compliance with the Bar Council of India Rules of Professional Conduct and Etiquette.
  • Prepare and deliver the Post-Consultation Summary within 2 hours of the conclusion of each Consultation.
  • Not solicit ongoing retainers or further work from clients met through the Platform by circumventing the Platform's intake system.
  • Not share or disclose any client information received through the Platform for any purpose other than providing the agreed Consultation.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with professional obligations and applicable law.
  • Acknowledge that the Platform Fee deducted from their consultation earnings is a technology infrastructure charge and not a form of fee-sharing prohibited under Bar Council Rules.

The Platform reserves the right to suspend or permanently remove a Legal Professional from the platform for breach of these obligations, receipt of consistent client complaints, or any disciplinary action by a Bar Council, without any liability or obligation to pay compensation.

Clause 7

Payments, Fees & Taxation

7.1 Platform Fee Structure

All consultation fees are displayed on the Platform and are inclusive of applicable taxes unless otherwise stated. The fee paid by the Client is collected by the Platform through a secure payment gateway (currently Razorpay). From this collected fee, the Platform deducts its technology service charge ("Platform Fee") and disburses the remainder to the Legal Professional within the agreed timeline.

7.2 Government & Ancillary Costs

Fees paid to the Platform cover consultation time and Platform services only. Any government fees, court filing fees, stamp duty, registration charges, or other statutory costs required for your legal matter are entirely separate and are not included in any consultation fee. Such costs shall be borne exclusively by the Client and shall be disclosed by the Legal Professional during the Consultation.

7.3 Taxes

All applicable taxes including Goods and Services Tax (GST) shall be charged as per applicable Indian tax law. Tax invoices shall be issued upon request. It is the User's responsibility to comply with any tax obligations arising from services received.

7.4 Payment Security

All payments are processed through PCI-DSS compliant third-party payment gateways. The Platform does not store any card or banking credentials. By making a payment, you agree to the payment gateway's terms of service.

Note: The Platform is under no obligation to provide services until full payment is received and confirmed. Consultations will only be scheduled upon successful payment confirmation.

Clause 8

Cancellation & Refund Policy

8.1 Cancellation by Client

  • More than 24 hours before the scheduled Consultation: Full refund, less payment gateway transaction charges.
  • Between 4 and 24 hours before: 50% refund of the consultation fee.
  • Less than 4 hours before or no-show: No refund. The consultation fee is forfeited.

8.2 Cancellation by Legal Professional

If a Legal Professional cancels a confirmed Consultation, the Client shall receive a full refund of the consultation fee within 5–7 working days. Alternatively, the Client may choose to reschedule with the same or a different Legal Professional at no additional charge.

8.3 Technical Failures

If a Consultation cannot proceed due to a technical failure attributable solely to the Platform (e.g., platform downtime), the Client shall receive a full refund or a rescheduled session at their option. The Platform is not liable for failures arising from the User's own internet connectivity, device malfunction, or third-party video conferencing tool outages.

8.4 Dissatisfaction

Refunds will not be issued on the basis of dissatisfaction with legal advice received, disagreement with the Legal Professional's assessment, or an unfavourable legal outcome. The Platform is a matching and facilitation service. The quality of advice is the sole responsibility of the independent Legal Professional.

All refund requests must be submitted by emailing us within 48 hours of the Consultation with full details.

Clause 10

Confidentiality

The Platform handles all information shared by Users with the utmost discretion. Information shared for the purpose of booking a Consultation (name, contact details, nature of legal matter) is used solely to match the User with a suitable Legal Professional and manage the Consultation logistics.

The substantive content of any Consultation — the specific legal advice, facts, and discussions exchanged between the User and the Legal Professional — is subject to professional privilege and is not accessed, stored, or shared by the Platform beyond what is operationally necessary.

Users acknowledge that:

  • Communications over public internet infrastructure cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure despite the Platform's best efforts.
  • The Post-Consultation Summary is transmitted to the User's registered contact details and the User is responsible for securing it thereafter.
  • The Platform may retain anonymised, non-identifiable data for the purpose of improving its services, subject to its Privacy Policy.

The Platform's data handling practices are further governed by its Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms by reference.

Clause 11

Limitation of Liability & Indemnification

11.1 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted under Applicable Laws, Get Me My Lawyer, its directors, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates shall not be liable for:

  • Any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Platform.
  • Any loss or damage arising from reliance on legal advice received through the Platform from an independent Legal Professional.
  • Any loss of data, revenue, business, or goodwill arising from Platform downtime, technical failures, or third-party service outages.
  • Any actions or omissions of any Legal Professional listed on the Platform, including but not limited to professional negligence, breach of confidentiality, or misconduct.
  • Any fraudulent or misrepresentative conduct by any User or Legal Professional on the Platform.
  • The outcome of any legal matter, case, or transaction in connection with which a Consultation was obtained through the Platform.

In all events, the Platform operator's aggregate liability to any User for any cause of action shall not exceed the total fees paid by that User to the Platform in the 3 months preceding the claim.

11.2 Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Get Me My Lawyer and its directors, officers, agents, and employees from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your use or misuse of the Platform, or your violation of any Applicable Law or third-party rights.

Clause 12

Intellectual Property

All content on the Platform — including but not limited to the brand name "Get Me My Lawyer", logos, design system, blog articles, legal guides, templates, software code, and the Post-Consultation Summary format — is the exclusive intellectual property of Get Me My Lawyer or its licensors and is protected under the Copyright Act, 1957, the Trade Marks Act, 1999, and other applicable IP laws of India.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Platform for personal, non-commercial purposes only. You may not:

  • Copy, reproduce, republish, upload, or distribute any content from the Platform without our prior written consent.

  • Scrape, data-mine, or use automated tools to extract content from the Platform.

Any feedback, suggestions, or ideas submitted by Users regarding the Platform may be freely used by Get Me My Lawyer without any obligation of acknowledgement, compensation, or attribution.

Clause 13

Data Protection & Privacy

The Platform collects, stores, processes, and transfers personal data in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, and all other applicable data protection laws.

By using the Platform, you provide your free, specific, informed, and unambiguous consent to the collection and processing of your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy for the purposes of:

  • Facilitating and scheduling legal consultations.

Clause 14

Bar Council of India Compliance

Regulatory Position: The Platform operates in full acknowledgment of and compliance with the Bar Council of India Rules, including Rule 36 of the Standards of Professional Conduct and Etiquette Rules, which prohibits advocates from advertising their services.

In furtherance of this compliance:

  • The Platform does not allow paid promotion or premium placement of any Legal Professional's profile.
  • Legal Professionals are matched to clients based solely on practice area, geographic jurisdiction, and language — not on any commercial arrangement.
  • No Legal Professional's profile, credentials, or assessment results are displayed publicly in a manner that constitutes advertisement.
  • The Platform's matching algorithm is informational in nature and does not constitute solicitation of legal business on behalf of any advocate.
  • The Platform Fee is structured as a technology infrastructure and communications services charge, not as a referral fee or fee-sharing arrangement between advocates, which is prohibited under Bar Council Rules.

Legal Professionals are solely responsible for ensuring their own compliance with the Bar Council of India Rules and any directions issued by their respective State Bar Councils. The Platform shall not be liable for any Bar Council proceedings initiated against a Legal Professional arising from their conduct.

Clause 15

Termination of Access

The Platform reserves the right to suspend, restrict, or permanently terminate any User's or Legal Professional's access to the Platform, with or without prior notice, in the event of:

  • Breach of any provision of these Terms.
  • Provision of false, misleading, or fraudulent information.
  • Conduct that is abusive, harassing, or threatening toward any Legal Professional, Platform staff, or other User.
  • Misuse of the Platform for any unlawful purpose.
  • Any action that could expose the Platform to legal liability or reputational harm.
  • Non-payment of applicable fees.

In the event of termination, no refund of any paid fees shall be due unless expressly required under these Terms. Clauses 9 (No Legal Advice), 11 (Limitation of Liability), 12 (Intellectual Property), 10 (Confidentiality), and 16 (Governing Law) shall survive termination.

Clause 16

Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of India. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

16.2 Dispute Resolution — Tiered Mechanism

In the event of any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Platform, the parties agree to first attempt to resolve the matter through the following tiered process:

  1. Informal Resolution (15 days): The aggrieved party shall notify the other in writing. Both parties shall make good-faith efforts to resolve the dispute within 15 calendar days of the notice.
  2. Mediation (30 days): If informal resolution fails, the parties agree to refer the dispute to mediation before a mutually agreed mediator in Bengaluru, within 30 days.
  3. Arbitration: If mediation fails, the dispute shall be referred to binding arbitration under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. The seat of arbitration shall be Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. The arbitration shall be conducted in English by a sole arbitrator mutually appointed by the parties.

Nothing in this clause prevents the Platform from seeking urgent injunctive or equitable relief from a competent court.

Clause 17
